We Just Leveled Up: 38North’s New Sec Eng Capabilities

Exciting news at 38North Security: We just welcomed a fresh crew of engineers to the team! Led by Larry Spector, the gang will focus on building a whole slew of security engineering capabilities.

Aside from stellar pedigrees and eye-popping achievements, the new guys also seem to be a pretty accomplished bunch, with some cool interests to boot. We’re nerding out over here, hence the Teen Vogue-ish questions they kindly answered!

We Just Leveled Up: 38North’s New Sec Eng Capabilities | 38North Security | security engineering | FedRAMP | IRAP | compliance | Larry Spector

Larry Spector is our new Senior Director of Cloud Security Engineering. He brings a lifetime of DevOps/DevSecOps experience to complement 38North’s advisory expertise. Besides having developed and overseen Verizon’s Managed Security Services suite, he also supported the self-driving tech teams at both Uber and Aurora.

Reinforcing the Bond villain vibes is the fact that Mr. Spector likes to drive fast cars on the raceway and strongly resembles an iconic Apple founder.

What’s your favorite drink?

I like beer, but my favorites are Barrel Aged Stouts. One in particular is Prairie BOMB! which is aged with coffee, cacao nibs, vanilla beans, and chili peppers.

Unrelated to work, when people come to you for help, what do they usually want help with?

Car stuff. Usually help choosing a new/used car or help with repairs. I had a lift in my garage when I lived in Virginia, and friends would bring their cars over to work on them.

What is the most impressive thing you know how to do?

Not sure how impressive this is, but I worked as a bicycle mechanic through school. Not only can I fix most bicycle issues, but I know how to build wheels from scratch. Hint- there’s math involved in calculating how long the spokes need to be, and if you get it wrong you have to start over…
